Mixed Medium Master
Ever heard of Jane Perkins?
No...?
Well that's not a surprise.
I hadn't heard of her until tonight, but I've seen many of her mixed media artworks before. I first discovered her work via pinterest. But have seen it on many other websites. I'm so impressed and in love with how Jane uses 'junk' to create amazing masterpieces.
Jane uses mostly found items and doesn't paint or color them. I would love to make some pieces inspired by her work, but need to hit up about 80 coin operated gum ball machines to get enough nic-knacks to get started.
I hope Jane's work inspires you as it has inspired me!

Reversible Baby Bib Pattern
Linked below is the pattern needed to complete the Reversible Baby Bib Tutorial from Whitney Sews. The pattern is being provided for free so it is intended for personal and gift giving use only.
The pattern already includes a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
When printing choose 'fit to page' or none'on scaling so it will print properly. You should end up with two printed pages. Cut out both pieces and tape together on the flat side. (It helps to then trace the entire piece onto a sturdier paper before using)

DIY the Holiday - Mickey and Minnie Ornaments
I know a lot of people are wanting to create DIY gifts and decorations for the holidays. To give everyone a head start I will be posting one holiday or Christmas themed tutorial each month leading up to December. This is the first video of the series.
I used some thrifted ornaments and acrylic paint to create two adorable Disney themed ornaments. This is super easy so you can even get the kids involved :) I hope you enjoy!

101 Dalmatians Messenger Bag
I recently got the opportunity to do a custom order for a 101 Dalmatians messenger bag using a Disney 101 Dalmatians sheet. It was a lot of fun to work on. I always have a great time working on custom orders because I know who the item is going to be for and want to make it even more special then the rest of the things I make!
The sheet I used was a little thinner then I would have liked, so after interfacing the outer pieces I went ahead and sewed a piece of white fabric to the back of each (using a 1/4 inch seam allowance). I then sewed the bag together just like normal. This gave an extra bit of stability that it wouldn't have had otherwise.
The bag has a large zipper pocket in the back, two front pockets and an adjustable velcro closure.
Here are some quick pics I took of the bag before packaging it up.
Check out my tutorial if you want to make your own messenger bag!

Birds on a Wire Painting
I got a great idea on pinterest for a birds on a wire painting. I've pinned several that I like and decided it was time to give it a try myself! I picked up a printed canvas at Goodwill for $4 and used some acrylic paints I had on hand to create my own wall art.
Here's a quick video I made showing how I did the painting. Hope you enjoy :)

Weekend at the City
I've been visiting Silver Dollar City since I was 9 years old. It is as near and dear to me as a second home or childhood friend! Last month I got to take Jeremiah to SDC for his first time and we had a blast. Here is a video showing some of the things we got to see and experience :)

My First Sewing Machine
I've mentioned on my history blog that this is a landmark year for the Singer Sewing Machine company. I myself own a few Singer sewing machines...and really like them.
Last night my mom came across my very first sewing machine in storage. It's a machine that I dearly loved and hoped had not been thrown out over the years. I remembered the sewing machine being white with clear blue areas...but had long since forgotten that it too was a Singer Sewing Machine.
I was probably somewhere between the ages of 7 and 9 when I was given this toy sewing machine. I used to get scraps of fabric from Mom, would sit down in my bedroom floor at the machine, put two together and sew several lines up, down and across until I thought it had enough stitching. Then start over with more pieces. I never mastered threading the machine so when the thread ran out I always had to have Mom come and rethread it (thankfully I've gotten over that...). Sadly after a decent amount of usage and a few fabric jams a plastic piece on the inside broke rendering the machine unusable.
I so glad to see my first sewing machine again. It’s really amazing how far I’ve come since the days of sewing on that machine in my bedroom floor!

Giveaway Prize
A few weeks ago I hosted a giveaway on my facebook page in honor of reaching 2,000 facebook fans. The prize was either a pillow sham or curvy clutch custom made for the winner using fabric from my stash.
The winner chose a curvy clutch and said she likes pinks and reds and bold, vintage inspired florals. It took me a while, but I finally came across the perfect fabric! It's 'fat quarter' cut from a vintage sheet that I received in a swap a few years ago.
I added a ruffle and cluster of buttons like I do on all my recent clutches. So here is how the custom made bag turned out...

Medieval Monday Update
Had a little issue with recording this week...the first time through was perfectly lite, but badly out of focus (camera got bumped). Second time through was not as well lite, but still a little out of focus. But I still said everything I needed to :)
